Question 5
The Correct Answer Is: TRUE
Acts 2:37-38: "37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" 38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
On the Day of Pentecost, upon hearing the message of Jesus, and believing it, the believing people wanted to know what to do next. The first thing Peter told them to do was repent. Repent of what? Repent of their sins. We already have established that everybody has sinned. Everybody needs to have their sins forgiven. But if we don't have sorrow over our sins, if we aren't ready to change our attitude towards sin and determine not to live in it any longer, then God is not willing to save us. That's not because God is unjust, it's because he abhors sin. It is an affront to his character. So in order to be saved, we must repent, which is simply a change of attitude towards sin, a 180 degree turn if you will, away from sin and towards God. Now Christians will sin, even after obeying God. But our attitude towards it should be different. Before obeying Christ, we didn't care if we sinned. After obeying Christ, now we care. Sin should disgust us, as much as it disgusts God. In order to obey God, I need to thus turn from my life of sin, and determine to walk faithfully towards God from now on.
