Question 10

Question 10

The Correct Answer Is: TRUE

1 Corinthians 15:4-8: "4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. 6 After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. 7 After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. 8 Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time."

Two other people died on a cross next to Jesus when he was crucified.  Their deaths didn't pay the price for sin.  The only thing that confirms that Jesus' death did, was the resurrection from the dead.  The question that people have is: is the resurrection story believable?  If only one person saw Jesus, then the answer would likely be 'no'.  But Jesus wasn't seen by just one person.  He was seen by the women who went to the tomb.  He was seen by his eleven disciples who were still living on multiple occasions.  He was seen by men on the road to Emmaus outside Jerusalem.  He was seen by more than 500 people at once.  And then he was seen by an ardent persecutor of the early church, the man who would become the Apostle Paul.  Jesus' resurrection had so many independent witnesses, whose credibility could be examined by those in the 1st century, that if their testimony was able to be admitted to a court of law today, the jury would have no choice but to conclude that Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his death (what we would call Sunday).  And it is belief in Jesus' resurrection that is central to the entire Gospel message, for Jesus' resurrection confirms our own resurrection one day to eternal life.  So if Jesus didn't rise from the dead, faith in him is vain.  But if he did (and the evidence says that he did), then faith in Jesus will lead to eternal life.
