Question 8
The Correct Answer Is: TRUE
James 4:13-17: "13 Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit"; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15 Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that." 16 But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. 17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin."
It's fairly easy to understand that if God tells us not to do something and we do it, then we've committed sin. But sometimes, it's harder to realize that if God tells us to do something that is good, and we do not do it, then that is also sin. Not doing good, doesn't always mean that we do the opposite (evil). Sometimes it means doing nothing. God has told us to work for our food. If we're able to work and we choose not to, but instead decide to do nothing and mooch off of the generosity of others, we're not doing good, and we're sinning. God has told us to love our neighbor. If we see someone in need of food, a need that they can't care for on their own, and we're able to help, but choose not to, we're not doing good and we're sinning. This should be sobering to realize that I am to do good always. Now, God is the one who defines what good is, but we are the ones who are to do good. If we fail to do so, we have sinned and are in need of forgiveness.
