Question 3
The Correct Answer Is: TRUE
Deuteronomy 6:4: ""Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!"
In this context, Moses is going over the commandments of God before Israel enters to conquer the land of Canaan. The reason God was giving the land of Canaan to Israel, was because the people of that land were evil, and worshipped many gods, all of which were false. Jehovah is the only God of this universe and the only one we should be serving. And so, since Israel was going to be exposed to all the gods of Canaan, it was worth reminding them that 'The Lord our God', 'Jehovah our God' is one: meaning that he doesn't exist as a pantheon of gods, each with their own powers and spheres of influence, but as one God. There are no gods of the sea, gods of the land, gods of harvest, gods of war, there is only one God: Jehovah, who rules over all things and all peoples. Therefore all other gods are false gods and should be abandoned. From history, we know that Israel did not heed these words, and often served other gods. As Christians though, we only worship Jehovah, and can only worship Jehovah, if we are to be pleasing in His sight.
